Editor, London (Part-time)
Editorial · London· Uzaktan · Yarı zamanlı
Aposto is an independent Turkish media company. We have built it over seven years on the principle: Cut through the noise. We are looking for a part-time editor in London to write for a new editorial project and to be Aposto's person in the city.
The role
This is a writing job first. You will write regularly, on a fixed weekly rhythm, for Turkish readers who live in London, in Turkish or English. The subject is life in the city as a Turk: what happened in London, which UK rules changed and what they mean for someone who moved here, what people back home are talking about, where to eat, what to book, who to know. You will own the copy, keep a few recurring data points honest, and answer readers when they reply.
It is also a representative job. Aposto has a London presence but no one on the ground full-time. You will be the person at the community event, at the restaurant opening and in the room with a potential partner, and the first call for a journalist or brand who wants to reach Turkish London.
We will share the full shape of the project with shortlisted candidates.
What you will do
- Write to a fixed weekly schedule, with an editor in Istanbul reviewing but not writing.
- Report the city. Follow London news, UK policy that touches migrants (immigration, NHS, tax, housing) and the Turkish-speaking community: openings, people, businesses, events. Most of your material comes from being out in London, not from a feed.
- Work in Turkish and English. You write in the language you are strongest in and check the other version, which must read as if it was written natively.
- Collect and verify events, notices and reader contributions, and edit them to Aposto's voice.
- Read every reply and feed what you learn back into the next piece.
- Represent Aposto in London: attend community and cultural events, meet Turkish-owned businesses, Turkish institutions and the London media, and bring partner leads back to the commercial team in Istanbul.
- Work with the Istanbul newsroom, drawing on Aposto's existing coverage rather than rewriting it.
Who you are
-
You live in London and you have lived the thing you will write about: arriving from Türkiye, sorting out the GP and the bank and the council tax, finding where the good pide is, missing home, building a life here. You know the difference between Green Lanes and Clapham, between the people who came in the eighties and the people who came in 2019, and you can write for both without pretending they are the same.
-
You write well and fast in Turkish or English, and you read the other one well enough to catch a sentence that sounds translated. Native-level in both is a bonus, not a requirement.
-
You have published before: a newsletter, a column, a blog, a magazine, a Substack. We care more about whether people chose to read you than where it ran. Three years in editorial work is roughly the level we have in mind.
-
You are comfortable in a room. Half of this job happens at events and over coffee, and you will be the person people meet when they meet Aposto in London.
